This course is designed to help you learn to recognize, navigate, understand, and apply the
PracticeWise Evidence-Based Youth Mental Health Services Literature Database (PWEBS)
.
Course Structure:
This course consists of four online learning modules that include instructional videos and progress questions. The learning modules are followed by a posttest and course evaluation. Three days of access to PWEBS is also included with the course. A continuing education certificate is available for download after successful completion of the course.
Learning Objectives:
Describe what PWEBS is and how it can be useful in the delivery of mental health care to youth.
Identify four ways to use PWEBS to explore research evidence for providing psychosocial services to families.
Access and navigate the four primary search types in PWEBS: Youth Treatments, Treatment Protocols, Treatment Practice, and Research Papers.
Explain the rationale and purpose for the Youth Treatments search.
Describe how the PWEBS Youth Treatments search was made and how it works.
Discuss the five levels of strength of evidence, and how to use the levels to prioritize treatment options.
Distinguish between treatment families, treatment protocols and practice elements and explain how they relate to each other hierarchically.
Summarize common myths and misconceptions about the Youth Treatments search.
Demonstrate use of multiple related PWEBS searches to explore the treatment research related to a specific service decision.
Explain how PWEBS search results can be considered in conjunction with context and specific knowledge of a youth to inform a best-fitting treatment approach.
Demonstrate how to proceed when a PWEBS search results yield no or limited studies.
