Maintenance (full course)

PracticeWise, LLC, is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. PracticeWise, LLC, maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

This course is designed to help you learn to recognize, understand, and apply the practice element Maintenance.

Course Structure:
This course consists of three online learning modules that include instructional videos and progress questions. The learning modules are followed by a posttest and course evaluation. The Maintenance practice guide is also included with the course. A continuing education certificate is available for download after successful completion of the course.

Learning Objectives:

1. Define Maintenance and why it is useful in sustaining progress.
2. State that Maintenance involves reviewing gains made in treatment and discussing with the youth how to continue practicing acquired skills after treatment has ended.
3. Express that Maintenance is consistent with cognitive behavioral theory, which suggests that Maintenance strategies can help prepare someone to face challenging situations in the future.
4. Explain Maintenance to various stakeholders (e.g., caregivers, teachers) to promote understanding and support for sustaining progress on goals.
5. Identify that the essential features of Maintenance include illustrating treatment gains, encouraging practice, and protecting against disappointment.
6. Illustrate the steps of effective Maintenance including discussing treatment gains, reviewing the concepts and skills learned in treatment, and emphasizing the importance of continued practice after treatment ends.
