.
Course Structure:
This course consists of three online learning modules that include instructional videos and progress questions. The learning modules are followed by a posttest and course evaluation. The Time Out practice guide is also included with the course. A continuing education certificate is available for download after successful completion of the course.
Learning Objectives:
Define Time Out and identify why it is useful in reducing youth misbehavior.
Provide examples of both effective and ineffective Time Out.
Describe the theoretical perspective of operant conditioning as a basis for Time Out.
Explain Time Out to various stakeholders (e.g., caregivers, teachers), including why, when, and how to use the practice to address undesirable youth behavior.
Discuss the key features of the beginning, middle, and end of Time Out to help caregivers apply this practice effectively to incidences of youth misbehavior.
Guide caregivers through essential steps of Time Out and learn techniques to elicit target misbehaviors that warrant its application.
Apply knowledge of Time Out to specific examples to better generalize its application across different youth and different behaviors.
Establish ways to anticipate challenges and address caregiver concerns to help the person effectively manage the Time Out procedure.
