Response Cost (full course)

This course is designed to help you learn to recognize, understand, and apply the practice element Response Cost.

Course Structure:
This course consists of three online learning modules that include instructional videos and progress questions. The learning modules are followed by a posttest and course evaluation. The Response Cost practice guide is also included with the course. A continuing education certificate is available for download after successful completion of the course.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify that Response Cost as a method to reduce youth misbehavior, and that it is generally implemented within the context of a reward system.
2. Explain the rationale for Response Cost from a behavioral perspective, including the notion that behavior that is punished decreases in frequency.
3. Associate Response Cost with identifying unwanted behaviors, determining specific penalties for each behavior, and implementing the penalties immediately following the behavior.
4. Demonstrate key steps of Response Cost: identifying the unwanted behavior, determining the penalties for the behavior, and how to implement the penalties following the unwanted behavior.
5. Illustrate the importance of 1) anticipating challenges when implementing Response Cost and 2) making contingency plans for these challenges.
